RESULTS: 2013 Warrior Invitational @ Ygnacio Valley HS

The Brooks Academy attended the 2013 Warrior Invitational hosted by Ygnacio Valley HS in Concord, CA on Sunday 12/15/13. We fielded an entry of 23 students in both speech and debate events. After 3 rounds of speech and 6 rounds of debate spanning 12 hours of competition, top three finishers in each event were awarded 3rd Place Bronze, 2nd Place Silver, and 1st Place Gold for their efforts.

At the end of the tournament, our students swept all 1st Place Golds in Novice division events.

**Eva performed both her OI and OO in separate panels, and ended up closing out the event with 1st and 2nd place honors!

Special congratulations to Arian, Eva, and Lavanya for their multiple Top 3 finishes- especially to Arian, who took home a full Bronze, Silver, and Gold set for Impromptu, Parli, & Extemp respectively.

And last buy not least, a very well-deserved shout out and thank you this holiday season to all of our coaches, alumni, and friends who came out to judge this weekend and support our students through this whole first semester of 2013-14. We couldn't have had this much success if it weren't for all of you.

The Brooks Academy competed at the 2nd Annual Harker Middle School Tournament, hosted by The Harker School. Our school fielded over thirty students in the tournament, and after two hard fought days, finished with multiple finalists in both speech and debate events, and four 1st Place finishes.

Congratulations to everyone that participated on a great showing this weekend against some of the top middle school programs in the country!

** Sadly, this tournament did not break brackets, and two of our Public Forum teams were eliminated because they were matched up against other teams from The Brooks Academy who advanced over them. The Brooks Academy attended the first annual Northgate Invitational at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek on Saturday 11/02/13. Our squad sent 13 students to the competition and walked away with several top honors in both speech and debate events. Special congratulations to Lavanya Singh for her double 1st Place finishes in Humorous Interp & Impromptu, and to the Dewan Family for fielding the first trio of siblings in our team’s history.

RESULTS: 2013 Jon Schamber Invitational @ University of the Pacific

The Brooks Academy took 31 students to the 2013 Jon Schamber Invitational @ University of the Pacific on the weekend of 10/25 - 10/27.

In speech events, our squad had multiple breaks in novice speech events, with several Top 3 finishes, and brothers Aman and Ayush Agarwal claiming 3rd and 2nd Place "Tri-Athlete" honors for their performance across three speech events each.

On the debate side, two of our teams cleared to elimination rounds of what ended up being a very large and competitive debate tournament, with Max Wu & Nikit Shingari winning the Open Division of Public Forum Debate, picking up ToC bids and scholarship money in the process.

RESULTS: BAMSSDA League #1 @ College Park HS

The Brooks Academy @ BAMSSDA League #1

The Brooks Academy had a strong showing at the very first ever Bay Area Middle School Speech & Debate Association (BAMSSDA) league tournament at College Park HS in Pleasant Hill on SAT 10/05/13.

On the debate side, all eight of our school's entries finished the day debating with a .500 record or better, 21-11 collectively as a squad. The Public Forum team of Ishan Maunder & Sukhman Singh claimed hardware and honors for their 3-1 winning record, and for the second consecutive tournament and weekend in a row, both the teams of Ishika Chawla & Robert Chen and Gaurisha Dewan & Sonia Sakleshpur finished competition with perfect 4-0 records and top honors.
